The three parishes of St Cuthbert’s, Allendale, St Mark’s Ninebanks and Holy Trinity, Whitfield together make up the Benefice of the Allen Valleys. We are part of the Church of EnglandDiocese of Newcastle; and more locally, the Deanery of Hexham. We meet for worship every week: please see the home page of this website for details of this month’s service times.
We welcome visitors to the Allen Valleys as well as local residents to join with us and celebrate God’s goodness to us in this beautiful part of his creation. Our Sunday services are normally celebrations of Holy Communion. At St Cuthbert’s, we use services in modern English from the Church of England’s Common Worship Service Book. In St Mark’s and in Holy Trinity, we use the service in Traditional language. Services last up to an hour.
In addition to our regular services, there are special services at Christmas, Easter, Harvest and Remembrance. From time to time we run community events such as Scarecrow Festivals Christmas Tree Festivals, Treasure Hunts; details of forthcoming events are on our home page.
In collaboration with the other churches in the Allen Valleys, we run Messy Church once a month, on the fourth Monday, after school at 3.45pm in Trinity Methodist Church, Shield Street, Allendale. Accompanied children of primary school age are very welcome. Messy Church involves an hour or so of craft activities, followed by a short act of worship, and then a light tea We usually welcome between thirty and forty children and their carers.
Our rector is the Revd Jonathan Russell. He and his wife, Hilary, moved back to Northumberland almost ten years ago, having served for almost twenty years in rural parishes on the Isle of Wight. They live in Allendale, and Jon can be contacted using the form on the ‘Contact Us’ page of this website.
